In recent years, gluten-free foods have been on the rise. But is this just a fad? Or are they really better for you? We tell you all about this trend, which has conquered the hearts (and the plates) of many households!

Now is the time for gluten-free! Whether in cooking or cosmetics , this name is increasingly widespread, and appeals to consumers. But what is it exactly? Who is part of the gluten-free movement? Explanations!

What exactly is gluten?

Gluten is simply a mixture of proteins, present in many foods that can be consumed on a daily basis, such as bread, pizza or anything made from wheat, such as rice or quinoa. . This fairly viscous mixture makes it possible in particular to bind food. But you will also find it in pasta, cookies or flour.

The major problem is that in France, more than 150,000 people suffer from gluten intolerance. This is called celiac disease . If today, there is no medical reason for this, many French people opt for gluten-free foods.

Focus on the gluten-free movement

Novak Djokovic, Oprah Winfrey or Lady Gaga, they all have one thing in common: they don’t eat gluten! And these are not the only ones! According to the Lesgasteliers website , since the end of 2016, more than 5 million French people have banned gluten from their diet.

Gluten-free, in tune with the times

A true fashion phenomenon, the gluten-free movement continues to grow. And restaurants have made it their livelihood. Every month, new brands open their doors in France.

For fans of gluten-free foods, beyond the risk of allergies , it is above all a question of opting for a better diet.
But with the trends that change from year to year, it’s not always easy to know which foot to dance on, or which plate to turn to …

Recall that in the 1950s, it was advisable to use margarine. 40 years later, butter is preferred. And today, we are strongly advised to stop fat, under penalty of having cholesterol and clogged arteries… So, which diet to choose?

What foods are gluten free?

Lucky for you, if you want to ban it from your diet, there are plenty of gluten-free foods out there. There is something for everyone and you won’t have to starve yourself!

Starchy foods

Regarding starchy foods, you can eat sweet potato, potatoes, rice and even quinoa.  In some organic stores, you can also find gluten-free pasta. So keep your eyes open.

Vegetable proteins

Legumes, such as beans, lentils, beans or soybeans, will provide you with all the vegetable proteins that your body needs to be in good shape.

Animal proteins

Good news, with animal proteins, you will be able to treat yourself! Meat, fish or eggs: you can eat them all. And accompany your dishes with vegetables and fresh fruits. A great way to feast, while eating healthy.

What about dessert?

To finish the meal gently, you can eat dairy products, sugar and even jam and honey . Or make homemade cakes, replacing white flour, with chestnut or buckwheat flour for example.

In fact, even by removing gluten from your diet, it can be healthy and balanced, with lots of little treats.
