Very concerned with astrology, the Chinese have been observing the sky for thousands of years now, in an attempt to discover the main lines of their destiny. And although the system is extremely complex, it has endured over centuries and generations. We will give you an overview of Chinese astrology, to discover its history and its main principles!

Once upon a time, Chinese astrology …

In China, astrology has fascinated and intrigued for more than 5,000 years ! Historically, this was a practice reserved exclusively for Emperors. They used it to know their strength and determine the weaknesses of their opponents. According to legend, the first to use it was Emperor Huang Di.

Over the years, astrology has developed and conquered many Chinese people. The Communists tried to ban it but to no avail. It has not stopped spreading and entering the lives of the inhabitants for centuries.

The main principles of Chinese astrology

Much more complex than ours, it includes no less than 110 stars, designated by numbers and acupuncture points. But also 12 signs, themselves linked to 5 distinct elements.

In fact, Chinese astrology associates different astral data. As the site astrocenter explains , what should be remembered is that it also includes yin and yang . It follows a cycle around the number 12. There are the 12 months of the calendar, with 12-hour days, each lasting 120 minutes, and the 5 elements, each lasting 12 years.

Parallel systems

Since Chinese astrology has existed, several parallel systems have emerged. There are 3 that are frequently used:

  • The “28 lunar mansions”: this system will exclusively take into account the moon.
  • The “9 stars”: this is a system used in Feng Shui. It is based on the magic square with a cycle of 9 years, which takes into account 9 stars.
  • The “4 pillars of destiny”: it is when the astrology of a person is established according to 4 data; the year, month, day and time of birth.

Chinese signs and elements

12 signs

Just as we have the 12 signs of the zodiac in France, in China, there are 12 signs also, which are found in the form of animals. But contrary to what we know, they are not related to the sun, but indeed to the moon. This is arguably the biggest difference from zodiac astrology.

You will find: the rat, the buffalo, the tiger, the rabbit, the dragon, the snake, the horse, the goat, the monkey, the rooster, the dog and the pig.

Your sign is defined according to your month and your day of birth. Each of its animals will have a meaning and outline your main character traits.  Don’t know your Chinese sign? Just click here , and enter your date of birth, to find out. Chinese astrological signs

5 elements

The big difference with the astrology that we know is about the elements. In China, there are not 4 but 5 elements : metal, water, wood, fire and earth.

How do I know my item?

If you don’t know your item, rest assured, it’s pretty easy to find it: it’s associated with the last digit of your year of birth.

Were you born in a year ending in 0 or 1? You will be natives of the metal element. 2 or 3 you will have the element of water, 4 or 5 the wood, 6 and 7 the fire and 8 or 9 the earth.
For example, if you were born in 197 6 , 6 will be important to you. You will be natives of the fire element!

So what is your Chinese sign? And your element?
